Artist Statement

My art is an exploration of the human experience. Through each piece, I aim to invoke feelings of nostalgia, a reflection of the universe around us, and the beauty that exists in even the most ordinary moments. Dramatic shadows play a significant role in my work, as I see them as an allegory for life's extremes. The visual journeys I take through various media allow me to express my feelings and thoughts, my environment, and my interpretation of the world in a deeply personal way. My work is varied and ranges from classical painting to street art, and everything in between.

As I continue to refine my work, I am particularly intrigued by the intersection of art and technology. Emerging tools and digital platforms offer exciting possibilities for discovering new media and pushing traditional boundaries. Incorporating these innovations into my practice allows me to reimagine what art can be, bridging the gap between the tactile and the virtual, and opening doors to untapped creative potential. In an increasingly technological world, I see an ever growing need for studio art, and the hands-on approach. With knowledge and respect for artistic traditions, augmented by emerging tools and techniques, I seek to imbue my work with both classical skill and contemporary energy.

Recently, I have been pursuing oil painting, but my artistic style has been informed by watercolor, ink painting, and printmaking. I am always searching for new sources of inspiration, and find great truth in the words and lives of other artists, regardless of temporal, geographic and cultural barriers. These influences, combined with a desire to experiment with textures and fluidity, have deepened my appreciation for process as a fundamental element of creativity. I aim to provide a rich narrative for my audience, while remaining vulnerable in my development as an artist. I believe in the human capacity to constantly grow, no matter one’s age or station in life, and I strive for my artistic practices to reflect this, as I am constantly trying to find ways to tell stories anew.

Artist Bio

Jake Iberg is a longtime resident of Southwestern Colorado, drawing inspiration from the region’s natural beauty. He spent much of his youth exploring the wilderness, often feeling more at home outdoors than in the classroom. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong aptitude for drawing, quickly becoming known as “the artist kid,” an identity he carries with him to this day. Although a formal pursuit of art came later, his commitment to visual expression never wavered.

He describes art as “a language above words.” After years of working in the trades, he now brings that discipline and craftsmanship into his artistic practice. Returning to college with purpose, he earned recognition for both his artwork and academic performance, reflecting a lifelong dedication to learning shaped by his upbringing.

His recent work centers on oil painting, with a focus on mood and psychological depth in still lifes and portraits. While his path has led him toward painting, he continues to explore printmaking and multimedia approaches. Increasingly, however, he finds himself drawn to the enduring tradition and discipline of classical oil painting.
